How do I know if it’s time?
This is one of the most difficult question pet owners have to answer. Your pet can’t tell you how they feel or when it’s time, so that decision can feel daunting. There are some things you can look at and tools you can use to assess your pet’s quality of life and aid in this decision.
All of these are great questions to ask.
The Journeys quality of life assessment is a tool that can help you determine your pet’s comfort level and quality of life. Lap of Love also offers a quality of life assessment and scale. These may be useful tools in determining whether or not to proceed with end of life services.
During your visit, our veterinarians can discuss any concerns you may have, along with possible treatment options and hospice care, should you wish to explore them.
What is Aquamation?
How is water-based cremation different from traditional cremation?
How long does water cremation take?
Water “cremation” is a natural process, so it does take a bit longer than flame cremation. The water solution is heated and circulated around the pets for about 20 hours. The process simply facilitates the natural process of breaking down the pet’s body. Next, the remains are respectfully transferred to a warming cabinet for a natural drying process that takes about 12 hours. Once the remains are sufficiently clean and dry, they are prepared to return to the family in a container of their choice. In total, the Aquamation process takes 48 hours from start to finish.
What will the remains look like?
The remains are a soft white and very similar to sand in texture, reflecting the gentle nature of the Aquamation process. You will also receive about 20% more remains than you would following flame cremation, with fewer impurities.

Our veterinarians do not all regularly treat other species, and may still recommend you to a more practiced veterinarian if the concern is too complex. If the attending veterinarian does not service your species of pet, you will be referred elsewhere or may be asked to sign up again on another day when a different veterinarian is available.
How Does the Nonguaranteed Waitlist Work?
Our providers see as many patients as they can each day. If someone cancels, or we end a little early, we will see patients from our non-guaranteed waitlist. The waitlist does not transfer, so it does not guarantee a future visit. You will receive notice by 5:00 pm, only if we are able to see your pet.
