We’re excited to announce that My Pit Bull is Family is purchasing Access Veterinary Care at the end of August!

Access has worked closely with My Pit Bull is Family since we opened our doors in 2018, partnering to help families in our community access the care and resources they need to keep their pets healthy and by their side. Since 2011, My Pit Bull is Family has been working to address the kinds of barriers that force families to give up their pets – from helping families find dog-inclusive housing, to connecting them with vital services, and providing basic necessities like pet food and vaccines.

At the heart of both of our organizations is the fundamental belief that pets belong with their families. While we’ve each approached that value from different angles, our work has always complemented one another. My Pit Bull is Family works to address the systemic barriers that can separate people from their pets, while Access Veterinary Care works to make veterinary care more accessible when families need it most.
We’re incredibly proud to continue this work together, and to have the opportunity to expand access to care in an even more meaningful way.

Most importantly, Access Veterinary Care isn’t going anywhere! Our community has welcomed us with open arms since 2018, and we want to assure you that we’ll continue to be your friendly neighborhood veterinary clinic. Our urgent care, preventative care, and surgical services will continue as usual, with the same commitment to helping you and your pets.

We’re excited about what this partnership will make possible, and we’re so grateful to have our community alongside us as we enter this next chapter!

Access Veterinary Care will now exist as a nonprofit clinic – as one of My Pit Bull is Family’s programs which includes the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center, Community Pet Clinics, Wilbur’s Wares, National Dog Inclusive Rental Database, and more!

Practically speaking, Access will still operate as a local clinic offering urgent care, preventative care, and surgical services.

It’s no secret that the field of veterinary medicine has changed over the years and families have felt the impact of increased prices of care. In order to maintain our values and to continue to support pet loving families who need more affordable care we are taking this important step to ensure that Access can be here for years to come.

My Pit Bull is Family has been hard at work increasing access to care in Minneapolis in partnership with Access already – and having a clinic within the organizational programs is the next step for their dedication to pets and people across the Twin Cities.

These two great organizations coming together means that there will be more capacity to adapt to community needs regarding vet care for the pets we all know and love.

Our community has made it clear time and time again how vital our services are. As such, Access Veterinary Care will continue to provide urgent care, preventative care, and surgical services to the amazing families who rely on us.

As an existing Access client, you shouldn’t notice any major differences in your experience with us overall – you may just see some extra faces around the building from My Pit Bull is Family!

In fact, we’re hoping to expand our hours and add new services in the future to better support the needs of our furry friends.

Yes! The Access Veterinary Care and My Pit Bull is Family teams have been working closely together since 2018, and our staff are absolutely part of this transition. We know that Access is nothing without the amazing people who work here and believe so deeply in our mission.

Our team has been part of these conversations for over a year, and we’re excited to welcome everyone along for this next chapter. We’re looking forward to taking this ride together and seeing what we can accomplish for our community!

If you don’t know Bonnie, you’re missing out – she’s the bee’s knees! Bonnie has been with us since we opened our doors in 2018 and has occupied many roles over the years. Most importantly, though, she’s just an incredibly cool human (and has an absolutely adorable dog named Tux).

We’ve gotten a few questions about Bonnie specifically – because, honestly, you know to ask the important questions.

And yes, Bonnie will absolutely still be around!

There are SO many ways to support us, the access to care mission, or the purchase of Access.

Donations

Now that we’ll be a 501(c)3 organization (nonprofit), Access Veterinary Care can accept donations (starting September 1st)! These tax-deductible contributions, made directly to Access, will still go toward helping pets receive life saving veterinary care when they otherwise might not be able to afford it. My Pit Bull is Family also takes donations to help with community vaccine clinics, spay/neuter procedures, and other vital services that help keep pets with their families.
